Back when MySpace was the only thing around, it was all the rave. Once Facebook  opened up to non-students, everyone began flocking there. Essentially, it became ‘the new MySpace’. That was of course referring to the fact that Facebook had become the new place for everyone to be online. Once again I’m noticing that Facebook is becoming the new MySpace, only in a very disturbing way.

One of the most annoying things I remember about MySpace (back before I switched to using Facebook) was the girly ads in every sidebar. You know the ones I’m talking about. The ‘hey there, like what you’re looking at? Click here to find local singles who blah, blah, blah’. Absolutely ridiculous and riddled throughout every page you loaded. Then they started to get worse by making video ads that were just a hot and/or cute girl video-chatting on her laptop. To MySpace’s credit, they seem to have eliminated these ads. Now all you see are promotions for television shows, movies, or music artists.

Unfortunately, all the girly ads seem to have moved over to Facebook. It started with these little tiny photo ads in the sidebar that would pop up every once in a while. A tiny little image of a conservatively dressed girl that read ‘meet local singles’. Not really enough to become annoying, but still noticeable. Now however, it’s starting to get a little out of hand. The photo attached to this post is an example of the ads I’m starting to see now (note that I cropped it down for this post). These are full sidebar ads that are starting to get less and less conservative. I don’t know if you ladies are seeing these ads too, or if these are just being targeted at me because I’m a single 25 year old male (take note ladies, lol). All I know is that I’m seeing them more an more lately. It really does beg the question: Has Facebook totally sold out? I’ll let you all be the judge.
